The DOWA group positions its efforts for environmental conservation as important issues in conducting business. We prepared the Basic Environmental Policy and promote this policy as the basis of our business activities across the entire group.
We must engage in environmental and social efforts and at the same time we must reduce the load on the environment caused by our business activities. That is, we will create value while pursuing environmental conservation.
The CSR Department of DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd. is promoting the DOWA group’s environment management activity in partnership with the planning office of each operating company that is in charge of environmental conservation. DOWA Holdings is responsible for environment management and compliance control of the DOWA group in addition to coordination and adjustment among operating companies.

Thirty-four business establishments of our main production facilities of the DOWA group (and five outside of Japan) are ISO 14001 certified. Dowa Tsu-un Co., Ltd attained the Green Management Certification to promote environmental conservation in the truck industry.

The DOWA group conducts periodic internal and external audits for proper environment management. In internal audits, we also conduct cross-checking to deepen our understanding of the objectivity of audit and the environmental management system. Also we offer our internal auditors training courses to foster the skills of our internal auditors and increase their number.
We strive to raise employees’ awareness of the environment and enhance their abilities in reducing environmental impacts by actively promoting the instruction of our environment management system (EMS).
We are also engaged in actively promoting environmental education in all our businesses, including participation in training for ISO 14001 certification inspectors, lectures on how to pass the examination to be a pollution control manager and training for energy control managers and also managers who handle industrial waste that is subject to special control. We also offer environmental education to our customers.
In 2010, total 7,202 people participated in our environmental education. A total of 11,256 hours was spent for education.

The DOWA group, mainly the CSR Department, is engaged in a variety of educational activities, considering the necessity for all employees to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the environment and spontaneously take positive actions.
In 2010 we offered information on environmental and social issues relevant to our company, including global warming and biodiversity through our CSR education for new recruiters and a materiality review for mid-career employees.
We are planning to open our intranet website specifically for CSR in 2011. We will continue our enlightenment efforts to further raise awareness on CSR and environmental conservation through news closely related to employees, including CSR related news releases, glossary, data and efforts on environmental activities of each workplace.
