Business Description

DOWA Metaltech set a global standard for automobile connector materials, providing licenses of high performance copper alloy that is proprietary to DOWA and providing it to well-known companies involved with copper elongation goods in U.S.A. and Europe. We are expanding our business on a global basis, providing advanced product families of precious metal plating and bonded ceramic-metal composite substrates in addition to the above-mentioned alloy.

- Inauguration of New Plant for Bonded Ceramic-Metal Composite Substrate -

The bonded ceramic-metal composite substrate is used for inverter and converter units (power modules) that handle high electric power.

DOWA Metaltech manufactures bonded copper-aluminum nitride, aluminum-aluminum nitride, copper-aluminum composite substrates for power modules. These power modules are used for trains (Bullet Train), hybrid cars, wind and solar power generation in addition to traditional applications of air conditioning, elevators and industrial robots. In addition to its role of motor control when driving trains and hybrid cars, power modules also play a role in power regeneration where energy produced when brakes are applied. The demand for power modules is increasing, especially in Europe as a necessary unit for effective power conversion in solar and wind power generation riding the demand for clean energy.

DOWA Metaltech’s bonded ceramic-metal composite substrates contribute to developing environmentally friendly society as key parts that technologically support energy saving of railroad industry, low fuel consumption of cars and expansion of infrastructures for clean energy. DOWA Metaltech expanded its power device plant in Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture in 2008 and renewed existing production lines to respond to the increasing demand for bonded ceramic-metal composite substrates. This expansion doubled its production capacity and also improved the performance and quality of substrates. Its waste disposal plant was also renewed completely for improved capacity. The plant converted from using heavy oil as its power source to natural gas, aimed at reducing CO2 emission.
